EU responsible person under GPSR: who needs one and what they do
Under Article 16 of the GPSR, a product may only be placed on the EU market if there is an economic operator established in the EU responsible for certain safety tasks. If you, the manufacturer, are in the EU, that's you. If you are not — for example a UK, US, Canadian, Australian, Turkish or Chinese seller shipping directly to EU consumers — you need someone else: an importer, an authorised representative, or a fulfilment service provider in the EU.
What the responsible person does
- Verifies that the technical documentation has been drawn up and can be provided to authorities.
- Cooperates with market surveillance authorities and informs them of risks.
- Takes or ensures corrective action, e.g. in a recall.
Where their details go
On the product, packaging, parcel or an accompanying document — and on every online listing aimed at the EU (Art. 19).
What you give them
The technical documentation and risk analysis. Most responsible-person services will ask for it before they accept a product — which is exactly what GPSR Kit generates. Create yours.
Note: GPSR Kit does not act as an EU responsible person. We prepare the documents you and your responsible person need.
